Google Playing Swift Catch Up in Life Sciences Cloud

In 2003, the first human genome required $3 billion and fifteen years to fully sequence. Since then, the cost has dropped to around $1,000 and a sequence takes one day. AirMule drone ambulance makes maiden flight

A drone ambulance designed to airlift two people has taken autonomously to the air for the first time. The AirMule, which can take off and land vertically, is designed for conditions where landing a helicopter is unfeasible – such as on a battlefield.

Michigan Tech's anti-drone drone snatches drones in mid air

Drones are in the mainstream now, and for every good drone operator, there's a nefarious one looking to do something nasty with theirs. A team of researchers from Michigan Tech is hoping to prevent disasters by building an anti-drone drone that can shoot a net to trap and catch its prey in mid-air.

IBM Leads Patent Field, Amazon Makes Biggest Gain

n 2015, for the 23rd consecutive year, IBM (NYSE:) held the No. 1 position for patents received, while Amazon.com (NASDAQ:) made a big gain. IBM was granted 7,355 patents, according to IFI Claims Patent Services, followed by Samsung Electronics at 5,072, then Canon. Amazon made the biggest gain among the leaders, jumping to No.

The impact of the internet of things (IoT), both on day-to-day life and corporate business models, is increasing rapidly as deployment costs and other barriers to entry continue to drop, according to analysts at Gartner. AT&T's Penrose: $5 LTE modules for IoT devices are coming

Narrowband LTE and LTE-M are a couple of the new versions of the LTE Release 13 standard that are being touted for their ability to make cellular-enabled IoT devices less expensive. In fact, a top AT&T executive said that he believes that sub-$5 cellular modules are coming soon thanks to the proliferation of these versions of LTE.

Snapchat is really catching up to Facebook in video views

Snapchat and its more than 100 million users claimed seven billion mobile video views per day, rivaling Facebook's eight billion daily views from its 1.55 billion users. The high number of views comes from Snapchat's "Stories" feature, according to sources who spoke with Bloomberg. Snapchat's video views are up from six billion just two months ago.

Are you kidding me? I recently returned from the Consumer Electronics (CES) trade show in Las Vegas, and that question has been on my mind. The question doesn't refer to any of the technologies vying to be the next big thing – although I do wonder how many Bluetooth controlled vibrators does one really need?
