My Packet 8 Experience

The box arrived yesterday, with both the telephone adapter, easy to follow instructions and also the Videophone, which due to time constraints, and only knowing one person with a VideoPhone, will not get experimented with until over the weekend. I wish there was a way to generate a URL for the video feed that way, it could be like a web cam or send a stream to a central server and use it for webcasting. Maybe, if I read the manual I’ll find out I CAN do this. Reading manuals to me is really, only when I get stuck.

I didn’t need to read the manual. I swapped out the Vonage ATA for the Packet8 adapter. Plugged it in, hooked it up the wireless router/gateway. Plugged in my cordless phone. Called mom. She sounded as good over Packet8 as she does over SBC/Qwest on the landline, or AT&T’s CallVantage, but far better to how she sounds when I call her via Vonage. Maybe Vonage needs to update me from the original Cisco ATA-186 I have.

I called a friend on his cell phone who was at his daughters softball camp. He sounded just like always, and didn’t ask “what phone are you on” or indicate that there were any clarity issues.

Overall, I give Packet 8 high marks for my experience so far. I’ll play around sometime today with their web interface and figure out all the features and report back to you all.
