Cable Companies Like Cox and Comcast To Band Together?

Now this idea makes total sense and because cable televison is standards based, it should be rather easy to clear the hurdles technically.

So, while the company that is trying to do this is a relative newcomer, NeuStar, imagine what this means.

A) Number portability
B) The cable companies get put on a level playing field when it comes to telephony with the telcos.
C) One bill for data and voice.

Makes you wonder how soon the telcos will hold off getting into the video on demand and content delivery business as they begin to bring fiber to the home? Also it makes you wonder why AT&T ever got out of the cable business? It also makes you wonder why the cable companies that originally were partners with Sprint on the SPRINT PCS rollout many years ago ever sold out.

The answer is vision. You have to have a real long range view of where the market will bhe and what the route is to get to the goal.

For newcomers like NeuStar this is a huge opportunity to become a big player almost overnight. For the cable companies it gives them the ability to create a nationwide brand, ala Bell Telephone of the past, sold by the regional or local system operator. Sound familier. The cable ops are using the Bell system plan of the 1900’s in the 21st century. History always repeats. Let’s see if it does this time.
