Information Week bit on the Vonage no need to dial 1 plus the area code release of yesterday and has a rather nice story about the area code less calling.
But while the author reports that some analyst thinks area codes are going away, I have another angle.
Bye bye toll free 800 numbers. It seems that with a “local” VoIP presence in any of the 180 or so USA area codes that Vonage and soon other carriers are playing in, that you can now have all the inbound you want.
Now if they can only provide the same number in every market……..and have it be the same you’re back to seven digits and everyone thinks you’re local.
