With all the news about the hurricanes in Florida this one almost slipped by…..but not quite as it’s the kind of story that the RBOC’s hope you didn’t read.
You see, The Wall Street Journal’s Peter Grant just blew a lunar crater size hole into the RBOC’s ongoing FUD (Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt) when it comes to the issue of power outages. In a world where the pot calls the kettle black, it’s interesting when one learns that the pot really is black too, because Grant caught them red handed, and that means the green of the telcos are going to go up in smoke.
Basically the RBOCs have played the reliability card – often saying that VoIP won’t work when there’s no power , but POTS does . It seems that’s no longer a given as the RBOCs have introduced new technologies into their networks that rely on commercial power just like VoIP.
This is one that journalists and VoIP competitors should have a real field day with.
