The Ovation that Won’t Have Anyone Clapping

I can’t beleive the time it took to develop a product like this.

Back in the days of Metricom’s Ricochet the idea of DSL substitute was a regular feature. They even had the speeds up in the 256 range in tests and yes you could run voice over Ricochet. In the second coming of Ricochet they introduced a box that was part router, part wireless high speed modem.

The fact that it took over four years to get to this type of product goes to show how Silicon Valley, and even my own back yard has a hard time understanding where the market for wireless data is, and how to market to it.

Part of marketing is research. Another part is product benefits. Something like this product from Novatel has lots of benefits but my guess is it will need a massive shot in the arm by the carriers to get it sold through.

Sold in. Maybe..Sold through…oh now that’s a tough one.
