Vodafone is the largest wireless company in the world. Jeff Pulver has made them his focus of attention about their plan to block VoIP access. I wrote about this back on July 15th and am thrilled to see Jeff echo and amplify my concerns.
When streaming media was growing, Microsoft used to be concerned about this issue. They, along with AOL, Yahoo, Skype and everyone else in the content and messaging industry need to be concerned. By blocking VoIP, it’s like blocking PORT 25 by Cox Communications with respect to email, and permitting it. Block this today. Block something else tomorrow. Charge tolls for access. Make the customer pay more for the service.
And people wonder why I like WiMax and hope other players emerge to build out the networks. I just hope they don’t think like VODAfone does.
