Its Time For Internet 2.0 To Really Come To Life

Jeff’s very eloquent post about the FCC’s far reaching CALEA moves got me thinking. While I agree with most of what Jeff and others have said, a part of me, the realist, and a Public Safety Commissioner in my town, understands some of the rationale behind it.

But all that as food to fuel debate I think we’ve reached a point with the Internet 1.0 that it’s time to really open Internet 2.0 as the place where academic, government and companies all experiment, the same way we did before the WWW was born, before super fast PDA’s and Laptops and before broadband was as plentiful as it is.

You see, in my mind, the Internet is a commercial landscape, and everyone has a vested interest. That’s why we need a new playground, free of regulation, with the ability to develop new technologies that can change the world. What we have now is not that anymore, we just have another way to do what we’ve always done before.
