I bet he’s right.
There’s a lot of fear among the security teams in general about VoIP, even within companies that sell VoIP service. I have it on good authority that some of the biggest online players have holy wars internally on how to allow voice to be offered in a service. As a result the user is getting less than what’s possible, but better than what they had before.
That’s called Progress!!!
