Audio Codes Buying Netrake, Closes on Nuera

Today Audio Codes announced they are buying NetRake, a leading session border controller company. That follows on the heals of their closing on the purchase of San Diego based Nuera.

Some months back I remarked that the era of consolidation within the VoIP world is upon us, and we’re starting to see that. Arms suppliers, those that provide session controllers, gateways, switches and more are all in the gunsights of the big companies including Cisco, Alcatel, Nortel and Lucent. It is rapidly turning into a marketing game on the hardware front. Even public companies like Sonus, who are middleweights in size compared to Cisco, but have the smarts that the bigger companies lack, can’t be considered out of the running of buyers or sellers.
