Stuart has always been one of my favorite barometers about Skype and if they are on the right, or wrong track. In his post this past week he nails the problems with their new pricing plans right on the head.
What’s more, this is not new thinking. Jeremy Wagstaff of the Wall Street Journal and BBC had this nailed as did many others back in January. Jeremy linked to a few others who share the same view as Stuart and yours truly.
I continue to see Skype being driven by one thing..Earnout. Under eBay the game was not to not have to pay it. Under the revitalized team now under Niklas the game is to reach it. While some may wonder why “why not” has become “we have to” the simple answer is the more money Skype makes for eBay the better. eBay fiddled around with Skype for over a year, and harmed it’s momentum in some corners. Now the whiplash effect is upon it and the overcorrections are taking place. Give it another six months and then take stock in it.
