GigaOm has a guest columnist in Daniel Berninger, someone who has been around the telco wars in an IP era as long as anyone. Berninger brings the kind of insight I like to read as he’s right their with Dave Burstein and David Eisenberg at bringing understanding about the why things are the way they are.
His post about the upstarts vs. the incumbents is a quick read but has lots going on behind it. In landline replacements he basically says that the big telcos use the legislative and regulatory world to hold back change. I only wish he had dug into the mobile world where it is even worse, but on a global scale.
Given all the talk about innovation being stifled in this post and elsewhere one has to fully expect that some wise folks will seize the opportunity and be a breakout play in 2007.
