Jupiter Research has issued a report highlighting the fact that VoIP is expected to grow.
It’s no surprise that the cable MSO’s are also the expected leaders. This is likely great news to both Sprint and Level3, the two leading suppliers of voice grade network capacity.
What this also means is that for the most part, consumers will have Voice 1.5, not 2.0 connectivity. Instead those that want full on SIP based calling with next generation functionality will have to look at the “over the top” providers like VoicePulse, BroadVoice, Earthlink and SipPhone who have forward looking ideas about what telephony will be.
Then there is Skype and other IM based call services, but having not seen the full report, it is hard to determine if their role was factored in or not.
