I’ve been in Boston for VON. The blur started Monday as I hosted a panel on video on the net vs the big set then another about iPhone Hacks on Wednesday.
I caught up with the folks from Level3 learned about their deal with Jangl where people can now use Level3’s SMS platform for making Jangl calls. I’ll be meeting up tomorrow with some folks from Level3.
We launched a Blog for my company, Comunicano. It’s designed to keep everyone informed about the goings on of our clients. Today we have news from Truphone, Voxalot and Junction Networks. Each client also has their own feed so you can subscribe to the ones that you want to watch, or the whole thing, or use categories. No matter how you read it, you’ll stay better informed.
SightSpeed‘s CEO Peter Csathy had to pull out of his panel so I filled in and I agreed to moderate. He’s busy preparing for the launch of SightSpeed’s new business offering tomorrow. The fires in San Diego put he and a good chunk of the team there slightly off schedule.
Jeff’s VON TV is being launched and featured an interview with client James Tagg of Truphone.
Information Week ran a VON preview story showing how broad the exhibitor and speaker’s range will be, with some new voices looking at some new areas that are very much VoIP related but not centric.
GIPS announced a new softphone, something I think is more of a spite move aimed at Skype for walking away. Pal Tom Keating who was not at VON has the details. Tom’s right in his post as I never heard of it either, but their announcement makes it appear like Rex has been around before. News to me too Tom. I also can only find a web page on the GIPs site and the press release, but no links to a download so I’m wondering if this is vaporware.
AT&T was back on the floor. Verizon executives were roaming the halls and using a private meeting room but found time to announce a new softphone from Counterpath. Speaking of which, I’m told Counterpath will have the Mac issue licked by week’s end fro Eyebeam users and that they are working on a Nokia N800 version of Eyebeam. Linksys was out in force showing a new combination telephone adaptor and WiFi router combo which they developed. The difference? The now have full control of the software from end to end on the box. I like what I saw a lot.
What are people saying around VON this Halloween Week? “We got leads.” That was good to hear.
