Jangl is trying to prove that people will want ads with their phone calls with the launch of a new ad campaign to prove the point, reports Mashable.
This comes on the heals of Jangl powering a dating site called Plenty of Fish, which TechCrunch wrote about in January.
Candidly, for the causal sex (See Craigslistpersonal ads) crowd and the dating market Jangl is perfect, especially for those preferring the random hook up, It is a market full of people who “don’t want to know you more than tonight” type of crowd or maybe “just for a few nights while I’m in town.” So for them annonoymous calling makes sense. As other things that crowd has been known for, this clearly is a viral play with major social implications.
But there’s more. For the teen and college market, saving money is important. If Jangl can prove that the advertising to them translates to sales and not just hook ups, and even more hang ups, then there’s a business model here and Jangl more than most is well positioned to make money on it. But if the kids just put up with the ads to get to the hook up, and don’t spend the money, then this is nothing more than one Super Size Trojan horse play.
