London NYC Passes The Test

One of the hotels I always enjoyed in New York City was the Righa Royal. Well, like many things it has come, and gone. It’s time has passed and the owners now have a shiny new hotel called the London NYC. Well folks, the London NYC, like the Hotel 1000 in Seattle, is Working_Anywhere Approved.

While I didn’t copy down the exact speedtest.net score (as I was too busy working) I can recall the speeds at being over 7 megs down and 6 megs up each time I tested. What’s more is the whole hotel. even the upmarket Gordon Ramsey Restaurant has WiFi, and the rooms offer both WiFi and Wired connectivity.

I tend to prefer Wired connectivity in a way, as I bring my own Apple travel router and can then connect all my devices, and use Truphone on my Nokia N95 or Apple iPhone, something when you’re on the 46th floor you come to appreciate. Cell service, especially in Manhattan that high up, is never that good, and AT&T’s in that part of Manhattan certainly wasn’t.

The rooms are spacious, and the staff super efficient. And honest. I mistakenly left some cash in the room and checked out. It was a few hundred dollars. When I got to Philadelphia, I realized it. Called the London’s Security team, told them where I had left it, and about 20 minutes later they called back and told me they had it. Clearly the housekeeper demonstrated honesty, and they simply applied it to my bill and credited back what was charged to my credit card. To me, that’s passing the test.

As for Gordon Ramsey, the mini burger was very good, but the chips wouldn’t have passed in London at any decent chippy and had to be sent back. The second round were perfect.

What I also liked about the London is how quiet my corner king was. As someone who has to write, the noise abatement efforts have to be in place. Other than the neighbor’s door closing, I never heard a thing.
