Moshe Maeir from Flat Planet Phone Company has posted about his newest development, a Least Cost Routing Engine for mobile. LCR has been around for years. Many years. I added LCR back in the 80s when I was serving as the Office Manager for the Philadelphia Flyers and had the pleasure of over seeing their phone and computer ops (I bought the first Compaq PC back then)
LCR enabled us to route calls to neighboring New Jersey at prices lower than what Bell of Pennsylvania charged to route over AT&T via other LD providers.
Beyond what Moshe is pointing out in his post regarding how the LCR engine works, he’s showing that imagination in VoIP isn’t dead at all. Instead he’s demonstrating at IT Expo that the desire to break new ground remains alive and well. When I read what he’s marketing it still demonstrates to me that there’s lots of room for new ideas, and more importantly, that the minds which are focusing on things are identifying problems and coming up with solutions.
Now only if we had a really well functioning Mobile PBX. Toss this in and there would something disruptive.
