The 2017 L’Effet Papillion red and white wines may be the best sub $15.00 red and white wines on the market today. Ever since I discovered L’Effet Papillion, from the IGP Cotes Catalanes region and made in a cooperative by the winemaking team behind Roc des Anges in the Roussillion I have been buying these two massive out performers. As much as it's easy to enjoy more expensive wines, you really won’t find many more Rhône varietals drinking this well and providing so much satisfaction at this price point.
The white is a blend of Grenache Blanc and Macabu while the red is Grenache, Syrah and maybe some Carignan. It’s a juicy red, easy to drink. The Blanc is stunning. Honeysuckles, a beeswax taste that turns into bright honeydew and pear flavors.
