If AT&T likes unlocked devices (Carterphone bill) on the proposed 700 mghz networks why don’t they have a “bring it on” approach with their existing mobile network.
If you call AT&T and say you’re having problems with their service and not using a device they sold you, you get the “sorry, we can’t help you” routine from the service reps.
This is just like their wholesale division is busy helping power muni-wireless networks while their mobile division takes out WiFi from Nokia E61s and makes the iPhone a challenged device on WiFi. At least Verizon stands their ground all the way through from stem to stern.
