GotVoice.com, a service that is free or can be paid for more features along with another stealth product I know of or two, are seeing competition from CallWave with a neat Google widget for your Google personal page.
Basically you forward calls to your own CallWave voice mail box and that box forwards your messages on your cell phone direct to your email account.
Ok, so. Here’s where the value proposition comes in. You have a multimedia ready mobile phone with a data plan, like a Nokia N95 or E61 or a Blackberry 8800. Your email gets delivered and you have a voice mail message. You can play the attachment and then click on the number in the email and return the call. Very sweet.
In looking at the CallWave site it seems they’ve been busy taking their platform and making it ready for the web 2.0 universe. No bad for a company that about a year ago was shopping for a new CEO, was also on the block looking for a buyer according to inside sources.
While I think this is cool, I don’t see this being anything “me different” and know that other companies are ready to roll this out with a lot more behind it than what CallWave is giving away.
