Cable Digital News has a story that really breaks down the cable numbers for VoIP subscription, and breaks them out from the circuit switched folks that some companies lump into their so called cable telephony numbers.
This ramp is just beginning, but as a whole their number of customers gained in a much shorter time frame shows me that cable is the giant who will erode the base of the telcos.
AT&T CallVantage if you remember took the approach “cable is our friend” working with the cable operators to get people onto broadband and VoIP almost two years ago. I would not be surprised to see one or a few of the cable operators end up buying out that dormant asset if someone was smart enough to buy it up. The platform was solid and it’s becoming clear to me that the current SBC approach to CallVantage is one of caretaker, not business growth enabler.
