PC World Ranks VoIP Players

Once again my choice in the San Diego house, AT&T’s CallVantage finished first in a test by a major consumer technology magazine, PC World as they named it the Best Buy.

While I’ve had issues with Vonage in the Sacramento homestead with latency and call quality, I can’t say any of those issues have popped up here in San Diego.

What I like about the story is Jeff Bertolucci’s clear and definitive style of explaining the issues so everyone can make a better and informed decision.

For the record, Packet8 came in second. What’s surprising is that the difference between AOL and P8 was so striking in the results.

The two share Level3 so what happens on one network, has to happen on the other. Since AOL uses Sonus switches and Sylantro Application Serviers, just like AT&T, I don’t see how the difference can be as dramatic though as it was.
