Packet 8 adds Offiicemax but what happened to CompUSA?

The new cordless combo router, phonebase and VoIP box from Uniden and Packet8, which I hope to try soon, will be available in even more places. Already available online at Costco.com, Amazon.com and the Packet8.net web site, Uniden has been able to leverage their relationship with Frys and Officemax to broaden distribution.

One retailer that’s missing was CompUSA. My guess is that the channel management game is afoot, and CompUSA is waiting for a Vonage/Uniden product, should one be coming down the pike.

Note to Vonage folks–see below:

Introduced in March 2005, the UIP1868P is a 5.8GHz digital expandable corded/cordless phone with built-in VoIP technology and full router functionality, eliminating the need for separate adapter and router devices. This all-in-one whole house phone system is expandable with up to ten cordless handsets, deploying VoIP capability to each handset using a single broadband Internet connection. Incorporating 8×8’s patented Internet telephony software, the UIP1868P offers plug-and-play access to Packet8’s feature-rich broadband telephone service.

One key feature is that owners of Uniden cordless phones previously can use them with the UIP1868P out of the box.
