HTC Really Sticks Their Chin Out

HTC, considered the best assemblers of tiny devices like the PDA phone that is marketed by many wireless carriers really wants to piss off their customers in the cell phone business–THE CARRIERS.

They want to bundle in Skype with Microsoft Smartphones. I think Microsoft may be concerned too, but not that much. For Skype to work well past trials have shown that the 206 mhz platform is a bit slow, but the new 400 mhz releases from Siemens (made by HTC) are ideal.

The rub is the carriers don’t want VoIP access so simple that it takes minutes away from the traditional mobile phone business until they can get a handle on how to handle both the switching/handoff as well as the billing.

Throwing Skype into the mix is even more disruptive as there would be no billing except for Skype Out and once Skype In becomes a reality then the termination income that the mobile carriers get also goes away.
