When AT&T announced they were downsizing and heading to VoIP Wall Street noticed. So now SBC has done the same thing but instead of being smart like Dave Dorman was and say they have a VoIP strategy to head towards, SBC just blames the new emerging technology as well as cellular as reasons why customers are leaving.
Don’t buy it. This has more to do with busting away from the Communications Workers of America than simply downsizing. All the Telcos want to lose the union aspects of their business. This smells more like an excuse to do that, masked by saying, we don’t need as many people working in long established areas, all the while looking into new territories.
Make no bones about it. Self installing of VoIP clearly reduces labor cost. If you run a company and can make the same monthly fees do you want high priced labor doing the work or your customers?
