Probe Group is one of the more respected, and in my mind, more accurate research and consulting groups in the Telecom space. While Yankee, IDC and Gartner may usually get more publicity, from personal experience, Probe seems to have the analysts with more hands-on expertise and more focused insight.
Their recent report would seem to tell us what we know. VoIP over IP is hot. But it’s the numbers which they’re tossing around which are very exciting. If accurate, it would seem that VoIP will outpace wireless acceptance. And why not. More people are already connected by copper, and as the telcos switch to VoIP from circuit switched the ease of transition may become transparent to people who want a lower monthly phone bill.
