AT&T’s Dave Dorman Speaks Independence from Baby Bells

Yesterday at the annual shareholders meeting of AT&T (NYSE: T), Chairman and CEO Dave Dorman spoke about the next steps for AT&T as they forge ahead as the major player in IP based services.

In watching and listening to the speech it was rewarding to hear how much of commitment the company is really making to VoIP. But more important is the clear and decisive message sent to the Baby Bells, that despite every attempt (and being the Baby Bells largest customer) the RBOCs have refused to work to lower costs to AT&T in any way. As such AT&T’s plan is to become independent of the local Baby Bells and develop alternative access including Power Line Communications, Non Line Of Sight Wireless, Fixed Wireless and Free Space Optics.
