XO Rises Again

XO, which has more ups and downs than almost any company in the telecom space and seems to have survived is going after the business market.

That is a space that will be very crowded, if it isn’t already. Many local companies, plus Verizon, Sprint, MCI, Qwest and Level3–well just about any company selling bandwidth will be selling VoIP services either that they have in house or resell via partnerships with someone which does in a private label basis.

  1. Yahoo must be hating life because the relationship with SBC now looks like a burden. How could they finesse a VoIP deal after the SBC relationship?
Google, which should actually IPO this month, looks to be in the catbird seat because they are unmolested by deal baggage. If they map out the opportunity properly they could really clean up.
So in an industry of zero marginal costs, the source of competitive advantage must move to another domain, and that domain will be ‘relationships’. I know I’ve not mentioned it to you before, but I’ve held this view for along time.
Any joker can push packets, but it takes real talent, a true visionary, to navigate to the top.
