Packet 8 Adds Virtual Numbers

Keith Bare reported that Packet 8 has added virtual numbers. That’s great for people with dual residences or for businesses that want to establish a presence in multiple markets.

I’ve trialed Packet8 and their new video phone. I love the videophone, but the only people I know who have it are with Packet8. The quality is very high and it works right out of the box.

As for their phone service, the voice quality is good, not CallVantage level, but close. Of the next gen carriers, after CallVantage I’m digging VoicePulse. Turns out they do the same think as Vonage and use the open Internet, but with one difference. They deployed their own softswitches around the USA and have basically built a network for themselves. More on this later.

Packet8 vs. Vonage. This reminds me of the turtle vs. the rabbit. Vonage is the Rabbit, while Packet8 takes a go slow approach, but some readers tell me too slow. Clearly if someone wants cheap VoIP with high quality then Packet8 meets that need. The edge that Vonage had is rapidly becoming immaterial, as other players are coming out with better service and better pricing.

  1. The link you provided (from that poorly done Packet8 reseller) simply says “coming soon”. They have not been officially added yet.

  2. ”’poorly done”’ is better than
    NOT DONE at all……….
yes, my website is amateur hour but the MESSAGE is more important than Graphics or Paying BIG BUCKS for a website!
    VOIP is here…..
    VOIP is growing…….
VOIP is the next paradigm shift
