Is Vonage Another Netscape?

Just read Om…great stuff…wishI said it. Glad he did….but candidly, Vonage needs a big bucks investor and not of the VC kind. The best is an exit to a big Telco…MCI, Verizon and SBC lead my list.

  1. Perhaps I’m in the minority on this one but as one of Vonage’s 200,000 customers, I’d much rather do biz with the little guys than the major telcos. It is extremely unlikely that I’ll ever go back to ATNT no matter what program they have unless there’s no other choice.
In my area the local telco has a bit of a monopoly as far as service goes and even when they could have offered an unlimited long distance plan, they didn’t offer it “in our area” — that kind of stuff is what turns off consumers. If our house was 5 miles away in the QWEST area we could get their unlimited LD plan for $20/month. So we switched all our resident lines to Vonage and most of our business lines (not all, because we couldn’t transfer the numbers).
These telcos have been ripping off consumers for a long time with their ridiculous long distance fees and then you add in the government with all the extra taxes and you have a recipe for consumer disgust.
