Telstra and VoIP

Telstra Corp today announced its residential customers would be able to use broadband to make cheaper telephone calls next year, as the telco tries to take the lead in a new technology that could threaten its $8 billion phone line business. Telstra, Australia’s largest telco is making the move with trials in 2005 to hedge losing customers to other carriers.

One area that is hot in Australia is the P2P market. Already Firefly has been launched, which is a Skype like service and others are looming.
