Skype is at DemoMobile 2004 in La Jolla today. They passed out a press release in the press room about Skype on the Pocket PC featuring WiFi and SkypeOut so calls can terminate to PSTN.
The key is the aspect that Skype Out will be part of the 1.0 release. Add Skype out to a new iPaq 6315 with WiFi and better voice quality. I just wonder how soon the wireless carriers like T-Mobile lock down the ports “for security reasons.”
As a Skype user I’m thrilled by this. I’ll have to try this at a Starbucks soon. The idea of a PDA with Skype and Skype Out is very disruptive.
Update–Zennstrom ended up Skyping In for a call via WiFi from London. During the PocketPC call they DEMOnstrated the conference call capability via Pocket PC.
The call quality was very good and actually sounded more like Zennstrom was here–well, virtually he was. During the call Zennstrom alluded to 3G and Mobile Data platforms to be Skype enabled. Certainly this is not the last platform for Skype to climb onto.

As much as I love this idea, it still won’t get be to buy a PPC. I’d like to see it on Palm — and I’d like to see more wifi options there as well…
Good to know though that more people can use Skype in more places!
Skype expands their reach
Andy at VOIP Watch notes that Skype has now expanded their offering to officially support the Pocket PC over Wifi and that SkypeOut is fully supported as well so you can make calls to other Skype users just as easily as you can to mobile or landlines.
