Cox To Go VoIP

Cox Cable, one of the countries largest cable operators will be adding true VoIP real soon according to a report in America’s Network today.

My guess is Cox will upgrade markets that have had their digital telelphony service longest, or go into markets where they don’t have any telephony services. Why? It’s called amortization of the equipment on the balance sheet (i.e. can they write it down or off).

This means now that the four majors, Cox, Comcast, Cablevision and Time Warner, plus Charter have all begun some kind of VoIP plan either on the own (Cablevision) or in partnership with a VoIP player or provider.

Early money has Level3 as one of the companies involved in this as Cox executives and techs have been seen regularly in and out of the Atlanta and Broomfield offices. I also suspect that AT&T network will be a part of this equation as already they are one of the biggest providers of bandwidth and managed services to Atlanta based Cox, plus the Cox family holding in AT&T used tohave them as one of the largest shareholder a few years back.
