Skype will not have a PALM OS client. I don’t know where that idea came from in the first place, for I was at Demo and know that SKYPE would support such a platform but I don’t recall them saying how far along they were. Now the facts seem to be getting clearer.
PALM is like Apple when it comes to innovation. NIH runs wild (Not invented here) so why am I not surprised.
Apple may have previously been a NIH type company, but I don’t see how you can fairly say that nowadays. Look at how their products are generally based on standard protocols wherever these are available – Rendezvous (now called OpenTalk, I believe) and the streaming protocol used by AirTunes are just two recent examples. Heck, the OS is even based on BSD UNIX! How much more standard can you get! And when you look at their hardware it’s full of standards-based products- IDE or SATA Drives, DDR RAM, USB2.0, FireWire, 802.11g, and Bluetooth. The only “non-standard” thing is the processor. If you want to look at a NIH company you should surely be dissing Microsoft, not Apple! Write me off as an Apple bigot if you like, but I’m only trying to see accuracy in reporting…
