In what is clearly a move to correct their error prone moves of the past with data and mobility, Cingular is about to roll out WiFi enabled switch over type of service for their cellular customer, marrying it up with their Freedom Link WiFi. If you look at the concept one has to wonder why T-Mobile isn’t doing the same…well maybe they just haven’t announced it yet as the technology and WiFi compatable chip set phones are in the pipeline.
That said, this indicates to me that Boingo, the USA’s largest WiFi service aggregator is more than likely going to be acquired by Sprint, while Wayport is an ideal match with AT&T curlturally. Wayport has large hotel chains and a smart approach. When you blend WiFi, VoIP and Mobile phones, that’s the phone company of the future.
Verizon has been staggaring and has two companies playing in that space–Verizon and Verizon Wireless, which explains much to their start and slow approach. Sure they are the largest wireless company, but until they show me more about their VoiceWing product roadmap and how it marries into their wireless data and wireless platform, I’m not convinced they are flying the right way.
Envision a world where all MOBILE CELLULAR can access their VOIP network by calling their own voice mail………
THIS is where its going……..Mobile, Cellular, voip cheaply…………
