In the February issue of PC Magazine where many of the VoIP options were reviewed it seems their editors came to the same conclusion I did, that CallVantage is their choice for VoIP, with VoicePulse, the company I also felt was number two to AT&T since I too began some trials.
I guess great minds think alike.
