It seems that the sharp minds at Sharp have come up with a Broadband fax machine that lets you create files in PDF and TIFF format.
While handheld and desktop scanners let you do the same thing, this new desktop device lets you eliminate the computer and send the files right from it. If the person on the other end still has an old fashioned fax machine of course their is a phone. So if you connect this to a VoIP phone my question is, does it do double duty, or does one in an all IP world need to find an analogo phone line, even if you can connect this to an ATA. My guess would be “maybe, or maybe not”
Andy, thanks for the heads up on this, to me this is long overdue. The fax machine is a true survivor and still a required machine in many places where broadband isn’t so prolific.
There are some other options, I see that SIPCat also has a fax server and there is the AsterFax plugin to Asterisk.
