Are You Now Paying For Papers At Hotels?

Much to my surprise the “free” morning paper all the years I’ve been staying in Hiltons now have a charge. USA Today, which for many years gave papers away at hotels in order to boost their circulation now carry a charge of .75 cents. If you don’t want it, you have to tell the front desk.

  1. Can only speak for the past year and a half or so, but the Hilton property I work at has been charging at least that long, only the price has changed.

  2. This has been true for years at most hotels where USA is distributed. USA Today claims it as “bulk paid” circulation under a perversion, um, I mean, provision of the Audit Bureau of Circulation rules. The charge can be as much as 50% under the cover price.
