A little birdie told me that users of Verizon Wireless’ Broadband Connect product now are being capped at 4 Gigs a month. That pales to what I’m also hearing from other sources that the prospect of Verizon Wireless and Verizon merging is looming. It seems that Verizon Wireless folks are hearing talk of their work forces being combined too. This likely ties in with the prospect of AT&T buying or merging with Vodafone to be a global telco. M&A is in the air and the industry is ripe for consolidation.
In order for AT&T to buy Vodafone that would likely mean that AT&T has to “sell” the Voda interest in Verizon Wireless or in effect Verizon would have to buy it out for a lot of cash. That’s a dooms day scenario if I ever saw one, given AT&T enormous power and clout while sucking up a lot of Verizon’s cash.
I have heard the samething. I was at a Verizon Wirless store a week ago and was looking at the Treo 700wx. I was showing the rep some streaming video and he mentioned to me “Be careful, we have a 5 GB monthly cap on the data services”. Well, needless to say, I am not too happy about this either!
My Verizon contact says Verizon and Verizon Wireless *are* one operation. He also says no one is aware of any change in data usage amounts.
