Some may call this trolling, but I have to air these thoughts out:
1. T-Mobile or Three will create a true VOIP play complete with a softclient for the PC. Bets are it will be either Counterpath’s eyeBeam or SipPhone’s Gizmo Project client as they are both multi-platform, but I give Gizmo the edge as they have a Linux version too, and that plays nicely with the ASUS eee PC as another endpoint strategy that many mobile operators are chasing. The breaking of ranks by a mobile operator into VOIP big time will signal a rush of interest into Fixed Mobile Convergence.
2. If Skype goes more open with SIP, their first play would be with the cable MSOs.
Andy,
Think we have both said this (or wished for it) for a few years T-Mobile has the most to gain by following this strategy. The tieup with Gizmo5 at least seems plausible. Problem is AT&T now has me locked in for two years! Any VoIP strategy will be an independent one for me rather than integrated. Don’t see anything coming through from AT&T.
