AI and Blockchain Effect on Telecom

Musing on how blockchain and AI will change the telecom industry is becoming a focus of mine here. For years I wrote under the heading of “Andy Abramson’s VoIPWatch.” So while this is the home of it, as my interests now vary across all forms of communications, technology, and modern day travel, I’ve decided to write all this under “andy abramson” and be broader while also going deeper.

I came to this conclusion after attending and helping organize the first VON: Evolution, earlier this month, as after the great content from the attendees that Jeff Pulver curated, I realized, now more than ever, how we’re in the middle of another wave in the telecom industry. Once again, telecom is on the cusp of another era of transformation, this time thanks to the integration of cutting-edge technologies like blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI).

The VON: Evolutions attendees and fireside chatters got me thinking about how these technologies are being used to improve various aspects of the telecom industry, from data security to customer service and of course, marketing.

One of the most significant applications of blockchain in telecom is enhancing data security. Telecom companies handle vast amounts of sensitive information, from customer data to call records. Blockchain’s decentralized and transparent nature helps improve security by making unauthorized access or tampering with data difficult. Moreover, the technology can authenticate devices and users on the network, reducing fraud and identity theft risks.

AI is also making its mark in the telecom industry, particularly in customer service. AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants are increasingly used to handle customer inquiries and complaints, leading to faster resolutions and improved customer satisfaction. These tools can also analyze customer data to predict and proactively address issues, further enhancing the customer experience.

And in reality, we’re at the start of learning what the combination of blockchain and AI can do to revolutionize the telecom industry by enhancing data security and improving customer service.

The future of telecom lies in embracing these technologies and leveraging their full potential for a more secure and customer-centric experience.

We’ve only just begun.
