To Be Over Tech’d or Not
Call me crazy. Call me obsessive. Hell, call me a walking advertisement for the Consumer Electronics Association. But before you judge my seemingly excessive travel tech arsenal, let me paint you a picture of modern business reality.
Yes, I travel with what some might consider an embarrassing abundance of devices. Two iPads? Check. MacBook Pro? Obviously. iPad Mini for those cramped airplane tray tables? Absolutely. The iPad Pro for when I need that extra screen real estate? You bet. And yes, two phones – one iPhone, one Android – both armed with international roaming and local SIM capabilities.
I can practically hear you rolling your eyes through the screen.
But here’s the thing: in today’s hyper-connected, always-on business environment, redundancy isn’t paranoia – it’s survival. When you’re managing clients across time zones, when a dropped video call could cost you a deal, when your livelihood depends on that magical thing we call “connectivity,” you don’t take chances.
Think about it. Your laptop dies in Prague. Your iPad runs out of juice during a crucial presentation in Singapore. Your primary phone decides to take an unscheduled swim in a Tokyo hotel sink (don’t ask). What then? Do you shrug and tell your clients, “Sorry, technology failed me”?
I don’t think so.
The truth is, we’ve become digital nomads in a world that demands constant availability. The executive who can’t respond to emails, the consultant who misses video conferences, the entrepreneur who goes dark for even a few hours – they’re not just inconvenienced. They’re irrelevant.
My seemingly excessive tech collection isn’t about showing off or feeding some gadget addiction. It’s about ensuring that no matter what Murphy’s Law throws at me, I’ve got a backup. And a backup for my backup.
Because in business, as in life, it’s not the prepared who look foolish – it’s the unprepared who pay the price.
What’s your travel tech strategy? Are you team minimalist or team redundancy? The comment section awaits your confession.
