LightReading is reporting that Skype has made a deal with Level3 to be one of their carriers here in the USA.
With that move Skype moves from being a hobby, geek and techie toy to being a serious player. Level3 has one of the best networks, a highly capable softswitch and dial out ports all around the USA. Their fiber plant is one of the newest and their experience with early stage and established entities already proven.
This is as much a win for Level3 as it is a validation that companies in the telco space, selling packets and minutes are willing to take Skype’s money.
