Covad is clearly gearing up for their push to sell the GoBeam service and the announcement about a white paper is the first step to begin generating news coverage.
I’ll provide additional commentaryafter digesting the white paper, but here are some thoughts collected about the GoBeam acquisition:
1) When Covad purchased GoBeam, there were reportedly only 250 accounts active.
2) Those 250 accounts provided 15,000 installed seats using GoBeam
3) One of the VC’s who had invested in GoBeam refused to use the service for unspecified reasons
Under Covad the GoBeam platform’s deployment can only go up. Covad has one of the largest installed user bases of DSL customers and national reach. Already they are making a push in more than 15 markets, but one of their biggest resellers, Speakeasy, the modern thinking Seattle based reseller of DSL has according to insiders decided to use a Level3 supplied platform for VoIP.
This has to be a blow to Covad, and one would think their sales force will seek to get Speakeasy to offer their GoBeam powered PBX solution as well.
maybe Speakeasy.net is going to use the Level3 Network for Voip for clarity of calls and footprint for terminations of VOIP to PSTN!
The Packet8/Level3 call is as clear or CLEARER than regular PSTN
There is a so called fact in this story which is way off base. When Covad purchased GoBeam it had several VC customers including Pinecrest Partners, which was an investor in GoBeam and Vanguard Ventures, which was not an investor in GoBeam.
