Surveys are rather good ways to confirm what you think you know. That’s why today’s announcement from Ipsos-Insight is only slightly revealing about USA based Internet users and their intention to move towards VoIP.

The survey shows that nearly one in five Internet users will switch to VoIP, and that DSL and dial up users are the ones who want to switch, while intenders currently on high speed internet from cable providers are less likely. This last fact is interesting, because the cable modem users make up the bulk of high speed Internet users, outnumbering DSL consumers.

The other fact that is interesting, is that more users would want the service provided by a “telphone company” rather than the ISP or cable company. Seems people trust the “phone company” when it comes to VoIP, and thus this should help spur the likes of Verizon, Bell South, SBC, QWEST and other local phone companies to head in the VoIP direction.
