As someone who wants less devices installed in my house, largely to reduce the cable clutter and the draw on electric power, I’m always happy to see when a company rolls out the production of a combined device like Motorola is out in Taiwan that blends Cable Modem and VoIP technology that’s part of the DOCSIS 2.0 standard.
Now will someone please make a combined WiFi, VOIP, Cable Modem 10 port Router so I can eliminate four devices and have only one. PLEASE !!!
The new Motorola device is referred to as an Embedded MTA (EMTA) since it integrates a cable modem and phone terminal.

A bunch of companies already make WiFi/hub/router/cable modem devices. Seems like a matter of time before the include a VoIP capability. I think the only question is whether that will be via PacketCable/DOCSIS (which is not SIP) or via SIP (like the new Linksys devices).
