I think at some point those of us on the bleeding edge have done this, or something like it. One of the things that works great though is a Bluetooth headset as long as you can tether it to the PC…otherwise, doing this in a pinch does work, regardless of how it may look.
A new plug in is out to help Asterisk users find WiFi hotspots by Zipcode. It would appear that this does something very similar to a Skype address that does the same thing.
