A report out of Europe shows that VoIP and Mobile Phones are quickly replacing traditional (PSTN) phone service in Western Europe. I think you are also seeing the end of traditional PBX and Centrex services as part of this migration to an always on, always connected IP environment for voice and more advanced services.
The value of a Boingo account just got bigger as they are combining with SBC to offer each other’s customers roaming between both networks hotspots. While the agreement opens up many of the hotspots that SBC built out (i.e. UPS Stores) it excludes the McDonalds restaurant locations as those are Wayport built out properties.
Deutsche Bank issued a report that has lots of conjecture, some facts based on published SEC statements and other thoughts on where the VoIP residential market is going. While I’ve yet to see the 68 page report TMC has provided a snapshot..Maybe Om or James Enck will have more insight…
